Baboon males are considerably larger than females. Baboons are nearly always in troops, very rarely solitary males.

They are the largest primate in South Africa. Only the male has a mane of long blackish hair on the neck and shoulders.

Baboons occur widely in Southern Africa. Water sources are visited each day.

Baboons are very vocal and the bark of the adult male is a common daytime sound of the hills and savanna of South Africa.

Baboons are Omnivores. They may have a single offspring at any time of the year.
